'Summer in the Square' Brings Aberfeldy Together

22/07/2024

Aberfeldy Square was buzzing with excitement as families flocked to the ‘Summer in the Square’ community fun day, celebrating the best of Aberfeldy.

We hosted the event with our regeneration partners EcoWorld London. It brought together local businesses, community groups, local stakeholders and residents for a fun day of free activities.

There were games, creative workshops, street performers and a big screen showing family films and live sports- creating a perfect blend of fun and community spirit.

A highlight of the day was the big screen, which featured a specially selected line-up of family films and live sports. Children and adults alike gathered in the square on beanbags and deckchairs, creating a cozy, communal atmosphere perfect for enjoying movies and cheering on their favourite players.

Summer in the Square was a celebration of what has been delivered so far by the Aberfeldy regeneration partnership and the exciting things coming soon, including:

  • The Feldy community centre, which celebrated its first birthday in June, was full of activities and groups making the most of everything this state-of-the-art facility has to offer. It also welcomed huge crowd who joined together to watch England beat the Netherlands in the Euro 2024 semi-finals
  • Aberfeldy Street favourites Roots barbers had a chair in the square, generously offering free trims for the local community.
  • Almari Coffee extended its opening hours, so revellers could enjoy their top-quality food and coffee
  • Bistro Corner gave free samples of their delicious upcoming menu
  • The much-awaited Co-Op store is now open and was trading on the day
  • The Aberfeldy GP Practice had a stall and were welcoming new sign ups to their new surgery, which is set to open in the Square soon.
  • A new pharmacy is also set to follow later this year.

“Summer in the Square was such a great day. Thank you to the organisers for bringing the community together, particularly people who wouldn't normally talk to each other. My family and I had such a great time that it inspired me to get involved and offer my services as a volunteer to help with events like this when they happen in the future.”
